FEAC™ Faculty Leads Successful 9th Annual Enterprise Architecture Conference presented by the 1105 Group
The FEAC Program Director and Senior Faculty Mike Tiemann served as the Master of Ceremonies at the 9th annual EA Conference, held September 9th and 10th at the Ronald Reagan International Trade Center in Washington D.C. By any measure the Conference, with over 400 attendees was a success but the high caliber and information filled program sessions, as noted by attendees seemed to stand out as evidence of the maturity and capability of both the presenting and attending entities. The keynotes by Kshemendra Paul, Dave Wennergren and Dennis Wisnowsky, from the government and Padmasree Warrior, of Cisco, all blended to a core theme that can be summarized as, EA is as important now, as ever, for the success of the governments missions. FEAC also conducted the 7th Annual Excellence in EA Results Awards at the Conference. In the Civilian Agency Category the winners were the GAO and HUD, in the Defense Category the winners were the DOD BTA and the Air Force. The new State And Local Category went to the Kansas Department of Corrections and the two new inductees to the Federal EA Hall-of-Fame were Mr. Thomas Lucas, Former chief architect at the IRS and Mr. John Teeter, Deputy CIO and Chief Architect at the HHS. The NDIA DoD Enterprise Architecture conference held in St Louis from June 1-4 had over 450 persons interested in Enterprise Architecture in the Defense sector of government in attendance. The conference was designed to provide the DoD architecture community with a way to bridge the gap between architecture and programs and a tool to drive architecture into DoD organizations at the major commands and below. The conference included many case studies of DoDAF based DoD Information architectures, and concluded with addresses by Kshemendra Paul, the US Government's Chief Architect, and John Zachman, who in our community really needs no introduction. Enterprise Architecture being Embraced by the New Administration
Both the Recovery.Gov and Data.Gov applications established by the new administration, focused on increasing transparency and citizen participation in Government are being architected using the still, fairly new, Federal Segment Architecture Methodology(FSAM). Several former detailees to the Federal Enterprise Architecture Program Management Office (FEAPMO) have been called back to lead and contribute to these efforts. While Kshemendra Paul, Chief Architect from the FEAPMO, is managing the development and roll out of Recovery.Gov, Colleen Coggins (CEA) has been detailed from her role as Chief Knowledge Officer at the Department of the Interior, to manage the FEAPMO and the Data.Gov efforts. Both Recovery and Data.Gov were discussed in some detail at the ACT/IAC Architecture Plus Seninar Series on April 16th. With the recent submittal of 566 Segment Architecture Reports by Federal Agencies, it appears the current administration is continuing the use of EA as a primary transformational change mechanism looking for ways to better architect the Government's services and programs. FEAC is constantly monitoring and integrating the latest on all the FEA elements into its FEA-F Certification and supplemental training programs. For example, a two day FEAC course on FSAM has been available since its announcement as guidance several months ago and an overview session has already been added into The FEA-F Certification Program.

FEAC™ Institute’s Certification Program Being Revised into two parts to accommodate training budgets. (Green Belt Certificate-two courses and Black Belt CEA Certification three courses)
The 10 week long (only 2 weeks in class the rest you are on-line) FEAC™ Certification Programs are being considered for revision into into two levels, called Green Belt and Black Belt, with our regular certification examination to complete the Black Belt CEA designation. This will be offered as an option rather than taking the entire class and all five courses at once. All current certifications are grand fathered as Black Belts. The main benefit of doing this is that financially students can break the program up and take the Green Belt and Black Belt levels spaced as far as a year apart and spread their costs over a longer time frame. The Green Belt will feature the Concepts and Planning Courses and the Black Belt will include the additional Implementation and Integration Courses. The Project Practicum course would be split between the two programs. The Green Belt level will start in the upcoming Winter Sessions in January 2009.

FEAC™ Provides TOGAF Certification
The FEAC™ Institute has been given permission by The Open Group TOGAF Certification Authority to award TOGAF Certification to students completing the green belt portion of the FEAF and DoDAF programs. During the first phase students attend lectures about TOGAF and then are required to submit online TOGAF specific assignments and pass an examination that demonstrates competence on the framework.
2nd Annual FEAC™ Certified Architects Symposium
On June 27th the second annual FEA CEA Symposium was held at the Sheraton Premier at Tyson’s Corners Virginia. Thanks to this years advisory group the symposium shaped up as a very memorable event. Keynotes by Armando Ortiz (CIT Corporation), Michael Daconta (Accelerated Information Management) and Walter Okon (Office of the CIO, DoD) were all excellent and full of information you could only get at an event like this. The panel on the FEA Past, Present and Future moderated by Mike Tiemann and featuring three past and present members of the FEAPMO, Bob Haycock, Norm Lorentz and Kshemendra Paul was enlightening and full of information about the FEA and where it could and should go in the future. Major kudos go to our great partners at Digital Government, especially Kathy Hughes and Mike Smoyer for making the event and its logistics, run very smoothly. If you missed the event you can catch the major presentations on the videos which will be posted to the FEAC™ web site soon.

FEAC™ Introduces 10 New Instructors in its Programs
The FEAC™ Institute welcomes ten new instructors to its three EA Certification Courses, including John Dodd, Michael Daconta, David Dutton, Dan Appleton, Armando Ortiz, Todd Werts, Bill Simpson, Cortland Coghill and Duane Gelderloos. In future notices we will include profiles on these industry EA thought leaders and experienced practitioners. These instructors significantly raise the bench strength of FEAC™ Institute's educator and training corps and provide our students with unparalleled access to new and innovative processes, thoughts and procedures regarding the practice of Enterprise Architecture.

FEAC™ completes the FEAC™ Commercial (CEAC) Enterprise Architecture Certification Program
The program's practicums were incredibly interesting and deep. One of the practicums dealt with establishing a Vineyard, winery and all of t the related issues. It is better than any business plan for such an undertaking could ever have been. For the Fall 08 and Winter 09 programs we decided to combine the CEAC with the FEA(F) as we have changed the FEA(F) to be more generic and include TOGAF in the future. The key to all our programs are the Project Based EA Practicum students have to develop and present. The types of projects can be varied for real world EAs for organizations, to segment and solutions architectures for Government.
